Jenna Poonoosamy
Research Scientist

Hello,

Welcome to my website!

I am Jenna Poonoosamy. I am a team leader at the Institute of Nuclear Waste Management (IEK-6) Energy and Climate Research, Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany. My team and I combine experiments and modeling to investigate coupled hydrogeochemical processes in energy-related subsurface applications.

I am a physico-chemist and a radiochemist by training. I studied in France, where I had the opportunity to work at several research institutes like CNRS and CEA. After my masters, I moved to the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, where I did my doctoral thesis. After completing my PhD in 2016, I joined the Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany as a postdoc, became a permanent staff member in 2020 and team leader in 2022. Since 2019, I have also been a guest lecturer at the University of Bonn, teaching geochemical modeling.

Research Interests

My research deals with water-rock interactions that govern the evolution of many natural and engineered subsurface systems. I am particularly interested in the understanding and the development of process-based descriptions of reactive transport phenomena in porous media using creative and cutting-edge methods.

Keywords: Reactive transport in porous media, radionuclide uptake, and migration, multiphase flow, geochemical modeling, microfluidics, imaging techniques, machine learning, AI based automation, digital twin
